FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

We've gathered some of the most common questions to help you care for and enjoy your jewelry. If you still need help, please don't hesitate to contact us.

What is your jewelry made from?

Our pieces are handcrafted using high-quality materials including sterling silver (.925), fine silver (.999), 14/20 gold-filled metals, natural shells, sea glass, and carefully selected gemstones. Each piece is thoughtfully designed with ocean inspiration and meticulous attention to detail.

How are your shells collected?

The shells used in our jewelry are personally collected from the shores of Kauaʻi and other coastal locations where collection is permitted. We only collect naturally empty shells and never harvest live animals.

As shell collectors and ocean lovers, we believe in leaving more behind than we take. We carefully select only a small number of jewelry-grade shells while leaving the vast majority of shells undisturbed on the beach. This mindful approach allows us to create one-of-a-kind jewelry while maintaining respect for the natural environment that inspires our work.

Can I wear my jewelry in the water?

While our jewelry is made from high-quality materials, we recommend removing your jewelry before swimming, showering, or prolonged water exposure. If your piece does get wet, rinse it with fresh water and gently pat it dry with a soft cloth.

Sterling silver and fine silver may naturally tarnish over time. To maintain its beauty, we recommend occasional polishing with a Sunshine® polishing cloth.

How do I care for my jewelry?

Store your jewelry in a cool, dry place when not in use and avoid contact with perfumes, lotions, sunscreen, and household chemicals. Regular polishing with a Sunshine® cloth will help maintain its shine and remove light tarnish, keeping your jewelry looking beautiful for years to come.

Is each piece one of a kind?

Yes. Because we work with natural shells, sea glass, gemstones, and handcrafted techniques, no two pieces are exactly alike. Natural variations in color, shape, and texture make each creation uniquely yours.

Where can I learn more about shells?

Many of the shells featured in our jewelry have unique characteristics and play important roles in marine ecosystems. If you would like to learn more about shell identification, habitat, size, and other distinguishing features, we recommend exploring the Marine Life Photography Shell Guide.

This educational resource contains photographs and information on many of the shell species found throughout Hawaiʻi and the Pacific.
